Youth With A Mission (YWAM) It all started when a 20-year-old American college student, who was in the Bahamas on a singing tour, spent some time in prayer. As he leaned back in his bed and looked up, he saw what he called a "mental movie." He saw waves on a map. The waves turned into young people, going to every continent, sharing the good news about Jesus. "Was that really you, Lord?" he asked. This radical idea, that young people could be missionaries, stayed with this young man, Loren Cunningham. Four years later, in 1960, he started an organization with that idea expressed even in its name: Youth With A Mission. Today, Youth With A Mission (YWAM) has grown into one of the world's largest Christian mission organizations. The story of how YWAM began and how it grew is a story of God's direction and God's grace in using ordinary people from countries all over the world. Youth With A Mission, MAUI

  

     YWAM Maui is a training center for missions-minded people who are ready and willing to “know God and make Him known” throughout the earth. Since its inception in 1982, the Maui base has developed a focused passion for the nations in Southeast Asia. Our commitment to these countries has deepened over the past few years in particular, resulting in rich relationships and lasting discipleship.


    The base consists of over 40 staff that have answered God’s call to serve and to release young people into the mission field. The base relies on this team of volunteer staff from around the world to exercise integrity, wisdom, creativity, and passion as they keep things running smoothly—whether it’s preparing meals in the kitchen or leading students in prayer and intercession. The staff dynamic here is formed from an inter-denominational, multi-generational group of Christians seeking wildly after God. At YWAM Maui we thrive on creating an atmosphere where students and staff alike are free to grow and flourish as the Lord continually molds and shapes them to look more like Jesus.


    A number of former staff have continued on as full-time missionaries in foreign countries. Others have found their long-term calling right here in Maui, serving the Lord through YWAM. Whatever the Lord calls us to, the vision for the staff is the same: to continually grow in love and intimacy with Jesus, and to obey His commandment to GO into the world, preaching the good news and making disciples of all nations!


    How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!
